OOF
I didn't do a lot of developing the game recently ... well, none at all. Got busy with other things and life, and had to take a break to get out of a mental hole. Had to think about a few things, since my editor pointed out some concerns and those were definitely things I want to avoid. Without getting too philosophical, how does one write a story where bad shit happens to the main character without making it over the top or misery p*rn?
At some point the audience just stops caring - all misery the characters have to go through should have a purpose. I don't think it's interesting when the author just piles misfortune on their characters for the heck of it. Made me think. What's the point of making the characters suffer if there's no message or lesson to learn? On the other hand, we don't wanna get preachy. It's a tightrope act indeed.
